Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2011

Peter Copping has created an outstanding pre-Fall collection for Nina Ricci. What springs to mind immediately is the intricate lace joined seamlessly with the black opaque fabric to create a beautifully constructed sheer illusion. Also note, in the first picture, the return of the knitted skirt and cardigan, with the buttoning down the centre. Copping's cinched drapery, precise cuts, beautiful tonal combinations and especially textural fabric makes this collection a triumph. I very much look forward to what he will present this Fall. I need not make any further comment as I'm sure this collection speaks for itself.

Emilio Pucci Pre-Fall 2011

Peter Dundas has evolved Emilio Pucci into a little more mature and restrained label this pre-Fall collection. By doing so, he is opening up his market to the flamboyant and the quietly confident woman. I particularly admire the first piece pictured - the pink, red, orange and maroon print dress - coupled with the supremely divine knee-high boots reminds me of a 70s hipster ('where and when can I buy these?' is my first response). Also the scarfe adds a sophisticated French/Italian touch. The most important thing Dundas has done in this collection is his matching of tones, colours, prints and textures. It is a hard thing to pull off - especially the picture of the all-red toned outfit above. I am very impressed with this collection and I hope this is a sign of similar things to come this Fall.

The Row Pre-Fall 2011

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's designs for their brand The Row had yet to impress me, until now. Previously, there was little to distinguish their look from others and no clear signature style and cut to make it look like a "designer house". With this pre-fall collection my opinion has changed and I hope they continue along this path they have gone down. It is effortlessly chic and laid-back, beautiful tailoring with every piece and the materials are much improved (and worth the money too). I can hardly pick one out from the photos above as they are all equally as admirable in their own way. But what did strike me as being original-looking was the first piece - the triangular cut down the front of the dress and the lace - although common in fashion - both combined to make a very complete "The Row-style" look. Congratulations to the Olsen's for this breakthrough. I am looking forward to seeing what they present at their Fall RTW 2011 collection.

Special mention to the model above who was perfectly cast for this collection, I am yet to discover her name, and when I do I will add it to the post. If you know who she is please make a comment.

Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2011

I very much liked Stella McCartney's pre-fall 2011 collection and this has surprised me because I could not find much to like about her Spring RTW 2010 collection, the main problem was the long splits in the skirts and dresses. This look Stella has gone for is much more restrained in cut and is the most luxurious thing I could possibly consider wearing this autumn/winter. The materials and the cut are divine and although she does not draw great attention to typical "feminine curves", such as the cinched waist, she still pays great tribute the female form in a less-overt and more refined way. I love the simplicity of her designs which, when done by others can easily look common or poorly cut. McCartney is on top of her game right now, and if you like the above photos I would encourage you to look at the entire collection here (at Style.com) as this particular brand is very much about personal taste.

Phoebe Philo's Pre-Fall collection is a triumph. I hardly need to point out why because I think the photos speak for themselves. The collection is feminine and strong, elegant, impeccably cut and tailored, and a beautiful combination of style eras. There is a clear 60s mod inspiration with the geometric block colour combinations and strong, bold lines but the pieces also hark back to the 1940s and 1950s with tweed, the classic trench, the pointed toe heels (finally they're back!). But most admirable is Philo's twist on the suit - the pants - cut very close to the ankle are quirky and very French-looking. The blazer - cut in a very 60s/70s style - the green patchwork blazer makes me think of a young woman studying at Oxford University - is just perfect. I could not speak more highly of this outstanding collection. A special mention to Suzie Bird who models most of the collection and has brought out the best in the pieces.

And just when I thought Chanel could not get any more impressive... they do. This Pre-Fall collection is as inspired as any other Fall collection and I'm astounded by the ingenuity of the theme. There seems to be a mix of medieval and byzantine stylings. One of the most beautiful features is the suede-looking leggings/boots. The colour combinations are traditional and rich-looking, but the modern tailoring makes this collection a brilliantly innovative and signature Chanel collection. The first outfit pictured (modelled by Karmen Pedaru) is a great example of combining the elegance of Chanel whilst making it appear casual - the embellished sandals are a perfect addition. As you can see Karl Lagerfeld is all about the details and he does not disappoint. I have a feeling this will be an extremely popular collection. I hope that it receives enough coverage by the fashion media and bloggers.
