Julia Nobis modelling for the Yeojin Bae 'Don't Look Back' Lookbook

The collection featured above entitled, 'Don't Look Back' by Australian designer Yeojin Bae was the stand-out show at the 2011 Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. It has taken me a while to get around to posting on an Australian designer again mainly because the quality of design, cut and fabric has been horrific. Yeojin Bae is one of few shining lights in the Australian fashion industry and I would place her among the likes of Dion Lee. This collection is stunning. It really doesn't need any explanation because the elegance, sexiness and beauty speaks for itself. What a refreshing thing it is to see pieces constructed to such a high (top European) standard. Julia Nobis was a perfect casting choice for this collection as she exudes the understated mood of the pieces and is proving herself to be a truly talented runway and photographic model in the international scene. Many congratulations to Yeojin Bae, I can't wait to see the collection in stores.

Snejana Onopka was the perfect fit for the Isabel Marant Spring 2011 campaign. Why? Because she epitomises that 60s style French chic that we all know and love, the black winged eyeliner also helps. Karim Sadli was the photographer and boy does he sure know how to take a beautiful black and white photograph. We are truly lucky to have this go-to label for casual and stylish womenswear. It may not be highly original but the Isabel Marant label continues to deliver what it does best.

Who knew beige could look so good? Donna Karan's Spring 2011 advertising campaign, photographed by the legendary Patrick Demarchelier, showcases what the label does best: fluid designs that enhance the female form. It certainly helps that two of the best models going around, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Karlie Kloss, are involved. I love everything about this collection and campaign, it is elegant, sensuous and demure. Click on the photos for a closer look at the details.

As witnessed on the runway, Sarah Burton's Spring 2011 RTW collection for Alexander McQueen was flawless, ethereal and beautiful. What we saw on the runway, and the pieces that I reviewed for that show have translated into the MUST HAVE wardrobe items of the season. This collection is a happy contradiction as it is both simple in style but highly technical and precise in terms of the actual creation and sewing of the garments. There is much intricacy in the details. I commend Burton for this very ready-to-wear collection, I predict great commercial success with the above garments, accessories and shoes.

Julia Restoin Roitfeld models and photographs four of my top picks from Tom Ford's collection, as seen on the V Magazine website, click for her interview with Ford.

Tom Ford's return to womenswear shows promise and is a sure sign of some beautiful collections ahead. But I can't say that I am completely satisfied with the overall collection because some pieces didn't seem to fit with the elegance, glamour, and allure. There just wasn't great cohesion. But there were certainly stand-out pieces, some modelled by Karlie Kloss, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Karen Elson, Freja Beha Erichsen and so on. I have not provided (my picks from) the individual collection photos, which can be seen at Tom Ford's website because the copies of them on the internet are of poor quality. As soon as there is some good quality photos I will add them to this post. Happy viewing.

Due to the overwhelming interest on this blog in the runway work of Freja Beha Erichsen, I decided to reflect on her impact on this Spring's Ready-to-Wear season. But first, looking back over he career, it is hard to tell whether she has aged a day, her hair length may have changed, but her presence on the catwalk has remained pervasive. It is an understatement to say that this Danish model is a unique beauty, her body is of the perfect proportions for the runway and she has a look which can be harsh, soft, or smouldering. From what I can tell, and which is the most important, is that Freja has a friendly, relaxed and thoughtful personality. I will be posting a retrospective on her entire runway career soon seeing as she has been such a steadfast and enduring face in fashion and will continue to be indefinitely. Also, her effortless personal style is something very much to admire. Until next time...
